OWEGO — Owego (Morales) became the first champion at the 2021 Owego Little League 10U / 12U Tournament, defeating Johnson City (Farrell), 9-2, to capture the 12B1 title here Monday.

Owego rallied from a 1-0 deficit with a four-run fourth inning and never looked back, adding another four-run uprising in the top of the sixth.

Sam Buchsbaum opened the fourth with a double, then, following a Caden Morrow single, Eric Schrader smacked a two-run triple, giving Owego the lead for good. Next up, Lynkon Craft singled home Schrader and Benny Mikels plated Craft with on a ground out to make it a 4-1 game.

In the fifth, Cayden Adams drew a base on balls, stole second and scored on Buchsbaum's two-out double.

The Owego bats got hot again in the sixth to tack on its final four runs. Mikels singled and scored on a Payden Morales single. After an Adams single, Cayden Smith ripped a double to bring in two more runs. Dylan Brace brought home the final run with a triple.

JC put together a short-lived rally in its half of the sixth. A single, walk and an error allowed a run to score with one away before Morales retired the side to spark an on-field celebration.

Johnson City's first run came via two singles and a passed ball in the first.

Morales went the distance to earn the win, scattering eight hits and walking two while striking out eight batters. Both JC runs were unearned.

Morrow paced Owego's 13-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with a run. Adams went 2-for-3 with two runs and Buchsbaum was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.

Schrader and Smith contributed a hit, run and two RBI apiece. Morales, Craft and Mikels chipped in with one hit, one run and one RBI each. Brace added a hit and RBI.
