YOUTH BASEBALL (12U): OWEGO (CARD) SPLITS FINAL TWO GAMES AT OWEGO TOURNEY (2021-07-12)

OWEGO — Owego (Card) took care of Vestal (Bowerman) Friday, but saw its Owego Little League 12U Tournament end here with a 7-3 loss to Union-Endicott (Hamilton Jones) here Saturday.

Everett Wagner collected five RBI and Nolan Card contributed four hits to highlight the Owego victory.

Mason Henderson scored on a wild pitch and Card scored on Jackson Barrows' ground out, then Wyatt Niles walked and came home on a Wagner double.

Vestal would bounce back to take a 5-3 lead in the top of the second, but Owego posted five more runs in its half of the inning.

Henderson led off with a single and scored on an error and Card did likewise. Ryan Diedrich walked and scored and scored on a Niles single, and Niles scored on a Wagner fielder's choice. Wagner would score on a Brenden Whigham single to make it 8-5.

Vestal trimmed the lead to 8-7 in the third only to have Owego make it 12-7 in its half of the inning. Card singled, Diedrich walked, Barrows followed with an RBI single and Niles singled, then Wagner belted a two-run triple to make it 11-7. Whigham would plate another run on a ground out.

Owego would add four more runs in the fourth. Evan Canfield and Henderson walked, and Card came through with a two-run triple. After Card scored on a wild pitch, Barrows was hit by a pitch and came home on a Wagner single.

Wagner went 3-for-4 with two runs and five RBI, and Card was 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Niles added two hits, three runs and an RBI, and Barrows added a hit, two runs and two RBI. Henderson chipped in with a hit and three runs; Whigham had a hit and two RBI; Diedrich tacked on a pair of runs and Canfield scored a run.

U-E 7, Owego 3
U-E scored five runs in the fourth inning on four singles, two walks and a hit batter to secure the win.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Owego tied the score on a Trace Hall single and Niles triple.

Elijah Wheeler connected for a triple in the second and scored on Lucas Mott's ground out.

U-E tied the game in the top of the third.

Owego scored one more run in the fifth on Whigham double and Henderson single.

Owego put runners on the corners in the sixth with no outs, but was unable to score.

Hall and Whigham had two hits and a run on the day, and Niles added two hits and an RBI. Henderson had a hit and RBI; Wheeler tacked on a hit and a run; and Wagner had a hit.
