OWEGO — Owego (Card) was unable to climb out of an early hole in double elimination play at the Owego Little League 12U Tournament here Monday, falling to Union-Endicott (Longo), 17-9.

U-E rode a double and two singles to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never trailed.

A single, three walks, two hit batters and an error led to a six-run uprising in the second inning, giving Endicott 7-0 advantage.

Owego picked up a pair of runs in its half of the inning after Nolan Card and Ryan Dietrich were hit by pitches, and both players scored when U-E committed an error on a ball off the bat of Evan Canfield.

A two-out error followed by four base hits allowed U-E to increase its lead to 11-2 in the third.

Again, Owego would attempt a comeback. Brenden Whigham walked, Jackson Barrows was hit by a pitch, Wyatt Niles walked, and Card was beaned a second time to score a run.

Dietrich's fielder's choice would plate a run and Canfield's ground out would bring a run home also. Dietrich would tally on a wild pitch, making it 11-6.

Four walks, three singles and an error would help U-E extend its lead to 16-6 in the fourth.

Barrows and Niles were issued two-out walks and both players scored on an error, then Card homered to cut the lead to 16-9.

U-E added one more run in the fifth on a walk and three singles.

Whigham and Everett Wagner walked with two away in the Owego half of the fifth, but were unable to score.

Card and Henderson accounted for Owego's only hits.

Owego will face Vestal (Bowerman) in a 12C elimination game Thursday at 7:45 p.m.
