YOUTH BASEBALL (12U): CANDOR CRUISES TO LOPSIDED NO-HIT WIN IN OWEGO TOURNAMENT BRACKET PLAY (2021-07-05)

OWEGO — The Candor bats were hot in the opening round of double elimination play at the Owego Little League 12U Tournament here Saturday, cranking out 23 hits in a 23-0 rout of Vestal (Bowerman).

The pitching was impressive as well as Owen Beach and Brody Ahart combined to throw a no-hitter.

Candor scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, tacked on 10 more in the second and added an eight-run third.

Vestal walked then bases full in the top of the first, but failed to score, then Candor plated the only run it would need on consecutive singles by Mason Rose, Kellen Williamson and Donny Mackie.

Cooper Dember smacked a two-run double and Link Robinson belted a two-run triple and to add to the scoring.

Ahart highlighted the second with a three-run, inside-the-park home run. Kyle Jantz, Rose, Williamson and Mackie singled prior to the dinger with Williamson plating two runs. Jak Smith and Robinson followed the homer with RBI doubles.

Wyatt Anderson, Beach, Jantz, Rose, Williamson and Mackie also contributed singles with Beach, Williamson and Mackie picking up an RBI each.

Dember led off the Candor third with a triple and scored on an Anderson single following walks to Smith and Teagan Kwiatkowski. Gavin Bates walked, scoring a run, and Jantz brought in a run on a ground out. Hunter Cody followed with an RBI single, Williamson singled, Mackie was hit by a pitch to score a run, Anderson had an RBI single, Dember brought in a run on a fielder's choice, and Smith wrapped up the scoring with an RBI single.

Williamson went 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI, Mackie was 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBI; Ahart had two hits, two runs and four RBI; Dember contributed two hits, three hits and three RBI; and Smith had two hits, two runs and two RBI.

Jantz had a hit, two runs and an RBI; Cody pitched in with a hit, run and RBI; Robinson recorded two hits, a run and four RBI; Anderson chipped in with two hits, a run and an RBI; Beach had a hit, run and RBI; Bates added a run and RBI; and Kwiatkowski tacked on a run.

Beach struck out five and walked five over three innings and Ahart had one strikeout and three walks.

Vestal managed one walk in the second and another in the third. They would receive three walks in the fourth, but were unable to push a run across.

Candor faces the winner of Owego (Card) and Union-Endicott (Longo) Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. in 12C division action.
