YOUTH BASEBALL (12U): CANDOR KNOTS M-E AT OWEGO TOURNAMENT (2021-07-01)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — Candor (Rose) rallied form a three-run deficit to tie Maine-Endwell (Sonner), 5-5, in an Owego Little League 12U Tournament pool play game halted by a fire here Thursday.

The game was called in the fourth inning after a structure fire adjacent to Hyde Park, where the annual tournament is held, forced stoppage in play. Several vehicles had to be moved from the parking area to allow fire crews access to the steel garage, which was engulfed in flames in a matter of minutes after the fire started.

Candor pushed a run across in the top of the first inning when Brody Ahart led off the game with a single, stole second and third, and scored on Kellen Williamson's line drive out.

M-E responded with a double, single, four walks and a hit batter to go ahead, 4-1.

Hunter Cody walked and tallied on Jak Smith's double with one away in the second, then walks to Gavin Bates, Owen Beach and Teagan Kwiatkowski plated another run to make it a 4-3 contest.

M-E countered with a run via an error in its half of the inning.

Candor rallied to tie the game with two outs in the third. Cooper Dember and Link Robinson walked with one away, then Cody, Smith and Bates walked with two down to make it 5-5.

Mason Rose struck out six, walked six and surrendered three hits while giving up four earned runs. Two M-E pitchers gave up three hits, nine walks and five earned runs while fanning six batters.

Candor is 2-0-1 in 12C pool play.
