YOUTH BASEBALL (12U): CANDOR TOPS U-E IN OWEGO TOURNEY THRILLER (2021-06-30)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — Candor (Rose) parlayed a walk, stolen base and ground out into a 5-3, come-from-behind victory over Union-Endicott (Hamilton Jones) in Owego Little League 12U Tournament pool play action here Wednesday.

With the score tied at three in the top of the third inning, Jak Smith drew a walk, stole second base, and scored the winning run on a ground out by Gavin bates.

Candor would tack on an insurance run with two outs in the book. Owen Beach followed the ground out with a single to right field then, following a fly out to right, Brody Ahart singled to center to bring beach home.

U-E's first two batters in the bottom of the inning would walk, but the second batter was caught attempting to steal second base. Kellen Williamson would strike out the next batter, then field a grounder to end the game.

The Endicott crew would score the game's initial run in the first on an error and single, then make it 2-0 in the third on a pair of base hits.

Candor responded with a two-out, three-run surge in the fourth. Ahart walked and Wyatt Anderson singled, then U-E recorded a pair of outs. With Anderson at second and Williamson on first following a fielder's choice, Link Robinson delivered a two-run triple to right to put his team up, 3-2.

However, U-E knotted the score in its half of the inning following a single, walk and a pair of passed balls.

Robinson would record a hit, a run and two RBI to lead Candor at the plate. Anderson and Beach contributed a hit and a run each, and Ahart had a hit and an RBI. Williamson and Smith added scored one run apiece, and Bates tacked on an RBI.

U-E had just one earned run which Anderson gave up while scattering five hits over three innings of work. He struck out four and didn't issue a walk to earn the win. Williamson picked up the save, throwing two innings of hitless ball. He fanned three and walked four.
