OWEGO — Owego found itself down seven runs before ever stepping to the plate in a 13-12 STAC baseball semifinal loss to Johnson City here Tuesday.
The first four Wildcats were issued walks, and JC would add a double, a hit batter and two singles before the first out was recorded to build a 6-0 cushion.
The Indians would cut the lead to 7-2 in their half of the inning on singles by Peyton Farrell and Dan Schofield, an error and a groundout.
They would tack on two more runs in the second on a walk by Jack Rollison, singles from Andrew Tavelli and Farrell, and another ground out.
Three base hits helped JC in crease its lead to 10-4 in the fourth, although Owego got a run back on consecutive singles by Farrell, Schofield and Ethan English, then a two-out RBI single by Ben Rollison.
The Indians would score a trio of runs in the fifth to make it a 10-8 ball game. Jack Rollison walked, and Tavelli, Farrell, Schofield and English singled with Schofield picking up an RBI and English driving in two runs.
The Wildcats made it 12-8 in the sixth on a two-run home run, but Owego tallied three times in the bottom of the frame to make it a one-run game. A single by Lucas Harbol, walks to Ben Rollison, Ethan Nichols and Jack Rollison, and a two-run fielder's choice off the bat of Tavelli made it 12-11.
Each team scored one run in the seventh, JC scoring on an error and, Schofield singling and scoring on an English double.
The Indians outhit JC, 17-13.
Schofield went 4-for-5 with four runs and two RBI, Farrell was also 4-for-5 with two runs and one RBI, and English was 3-for-4 with four RBI.
Ben Rollison and Tavelli both went 2-for-4, driving in two runs apiece and scoring one each. Harbol added a hit, run and RBI, Nichols had a hit and a run, and Jack Rollison tacked on two runs and one RBI.
