SECTION IV TRACK & FIELD: CANDOR'S MORSE, COX, 4x100 RELAY GARNER GOLD AT CLASS D-3 MEET (2021-06-09)

MARATHON — Candor's Kara Morse, Alex Cox and the 4x100-meter relay garnered gold at the Section IV Class D3 track & field meet here Wednesday.
Morse cleared 4-11 to win the high jump in front of a couple of cheering teammates and was greeted by high fives and a hug afterward. The next closer competitor fell by the wayside after reaching 4-4.
Two of those cheering teammates, Mya Marsh and Bri Schweiger, teamed up with Morse and Cadri Edwards to win the 4x100 relay, making Morse a double winner. The quartet posted a time of 59.35 seconds.
Cox splashed his way to victory in the 3,000 steeplechase in 12:51.28, besting fellow Indians Isaac Lindridge and Ben Dizer.
The first- and second-place finishers in each event qualify for the Section IV Showcase, which will be held here Saturday.
Other qualifiers for the Indians include runners-up Jenna O'Connell in the 2,000 steeplechase (9:49.29), Marsh in the 200 (:27.83), Lindridge in the 3,000 steeplechase (13:09.49) and Ben Dizer in the 400 (:54.92).
Dizer was involved in what was arguably the most exciting battle of the day as he fell to Newfield's Zachary Taylor by one one-hundredth of a second in the 400.
The top seven finishers in each event were honored during podium ceremonies. They include:
BOYS
Dizer also placed third in the 3,000 steeplechase (14:28.67).
Zach Watson finished third in the 800 (2:30.93).
Matthew Fitch took third in the 200 (:27.09).
Lindhorst ended up sixth in the discus (76-3).
Cole Strong heaved the shot put 28-9, good for seventh place.
The 4x400 relay was sixth (4:12.62).
GIRLS
Edwards added a fourth in the 2,000 steeplechase (11:47.48).
Lexi Quick was fifth in the discus with a toss of 55-4.
Schweiger took sixth in the long jump (12-5 1/2) and seventh in the 100 (15:38).
