STAC SOFTBALL: ELMIRA HOLDS OFF OWEGO COMEBACK (2021-06-02)

OWEGO — Elmira built a nine-run advantage, then held off a fierce Owego comeback to post an 11-9 SATC softball victory here Tuesday.

The Express took a 9-0 cushion into the bottom of the fourth inning, then the hosts would start their rally, scoring twice.

The Indians tallied three more times in the fifth.

Elmira came back with two runs in the sixth and Owego countered with four in the bottom of the inning to close the gap to 11-9.

The Indians outhit Elmira, 13-11 and had two errors to three for the Express.

Lauren Gilbert surrendered nine runs over four innings, only six of which were earned. She struck out four and walked one. Taylor Dalton pitched three innings, giving up two runs on one hit and two walks while fanning two.

Dalton paced the Indians at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a run and two RBI. Sarah Terry was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Macy Gibson went 2-for-3 with a run.

Jordan Greeno and Gilbert had one hit, one run and one RBI apiece; Maddie Bennett contributed a hit and two RBI; Emma Howe chipped in with a hit and a run; Brooklyn Gaurnier and Jessalyn Corson scored one run each; and Ava Brown added a hit.

Gilbert, Gibson, Howe and Terry connected for one double apiece.

Owego's game against Seton Catholic was rained out Wednesday, but the Indians are back in action Thursday (weather pending) at home against Corning at 5 p.m.
