IAC SOFTBALL: S-VE FALLS VICTIM TO WAVERLY'S UNEARNED RUN ONSLAUGHT (2021-05-27)

Tioga County Sports Report
WAVERLY — Waverly scored seven unearned runs to hand Spencer-Van Etten its second loss of the season, 7-5, in IAC softball action here Thursday.

Sydney Tomasso reached on an error in the bottom of the sixth inning and scored on an Aubrey Ennis double. Courtesy runner Alyvia Daddona tallied on an Olivia Robinson base hit, giving the Wolverines their 7-5 lead.

S-VE grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on singles by Rhiana Lawrence and Faith Brenchley, and a walk to Raegan Sudnikovich.

Waverly got a run back in its half of the first when Tomasso walked and scored on an error.

In the second, Hali Jenner doubled and scored on an error off the bat of Michaela Lauper, closing the gap to 3-2.

The Wolverines loaded the bases with one out in the third, but Lawrence recorded a strikeout and induced a ground out to get out of trouble.

Back-to-back errors and Tomasso's RBI single tied the game in the fourth, and Waverly added runs on an error and a ground out to take a 5-3 lead.

A two out single by Lawrence, followed by a walk and an error would allow the Panthers to rally for a 5-5 deadlock in the top of the fifth.

Lawrence went 2-for-3 with two runs and Brenchley was 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Christina Beebe contributed a hit and Sudnikovich tacked on a run.

Tomasso accounted for three runs for the Wolverines while Ennis had two hits.

Jenner gave up three earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Lawrence fanned seven batters as well, allowing six hits and four walks.

S-VE (11-2) visits Trumansburg Tuesday.
