OWEGO — Owego rallied late, only to stumble Susquehanna Valley erupted for seven runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat Owego, 11-4, in STAC softball action here Thursday.

The Indians came up with a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game, but an eighth-inning miscue turned into a nightmare for the home team.

"We just fell apart in the top of the eighth," Owego coach Brent Doane said. "We rallied in the seventh to tie it all up and with two outs in the top of the eighth, we made an error and it snowballed. We make that play and we are out of the inning still knotted at four. Unfortunately, it didn’t go that way tonight."

Owego had nine hits con the day, but committed three errors.

Taylor Dalton went 2-for-4 with two runs, and Jordan Greeno had two hits and an RBI to lead the offense. Lauren Gilbert and Sarah Terry contributed one hit and one RBI apiece. Natalie Donovan and Alex Aubel added one run each, and Macy Gibson, Carly Kirtland and J Lewis tacked on one hit apiece.

The Indians don't have time to dwell on the setback with another busy week ahead.

"We have big games next week, with Elmira on Tuesday, Seton Catholic on Wednesday, Corning on Thursday and we wrap up the season on Saturday with a game with Waverly," Doane said.

Owego (4-7) visits Elmira Friday.
