IAC SOFTBALL: S-VE'S PRESHER NEARLY PERFECT IN ROUT OF WATKINS GLEN (2021-05-19)

Tioga County Sports Report
SPENCER — Sydney Presher came within one out of a perfect game as Spencer-Van Etten routed Watkins Glen, 20-0, in five innings here Wednesday.

Presher retired 14 consecutive batters, six by strikeout, before surrendering a base on balls to the Senecas' Alyson Gibson with two down in the top of the fifth. She struck out the next batter to end the game.

The Panthers wasted little time taking control of the game, scoring 10 runs in their first at-bats.

Lead-off hitter Rhiana Lawrence led the charge, getting hit by a pitch and adding a double in her second trip to the plate — and registered two runs and two RBI in the inning.

Faith Brenchley had a single, walk, run and RBI and Taya Sousa contributed a single, run and RBI.

Christina Beebe walked twice and scored a run, Hannah Martinez, Erika Coville and Marah Cooper added a walk and a run apiece, Gillian Jackman was hit by a pitch and scored, and JC Gallagher reached on an error and scored.

Cooper would add another walk and run in the second, and Lawrence tacked on a hit and a run to push the advantage to 12-0.

S-VE plated another half-dozen runs in the third. Katelin Klym reached on an error and scored, Gallagher singled and score, Cooper walked and scored, Lawrence and Brenchley both made it to base on errors and scored, and Beebe singled and scored.

With a comfortable 18-0 cushion in hand, Coville reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the fourth and Cooper followed with a base hit. Both runners scored with Coville crossing home plate on an error off the bat of Beebe and Cooper tallying on a Martinez single.

Cooper, batting out of the nine-hole, scored four runs on the day on one hit and a trio of walks. Lawrence scored four runs as well, going 2-for-3 with two RBI in the process. Martinez went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI; and Brenchley was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Beebe and Gallagher contributed a hit and two runs apiece; Sousa had a hit, run and RBI; Coville scored twice, and Jackman and Klym added one run each.

S-VE (9-1) visits Odessa-Montour Thursday at 5 p.m.
