STAC SOFTBALL: HECTIC SCHEDULE WEIGHS ON OWEGO IN LOSS (2021-05-15)

OWEGO — Owego played five games in five days, dropping two one-run battles and holding two other opponents to one run each in splitting the first four contests. Those games appeared to weigh on the Indians as they fell to Chenango Forks here Saturday, 10-6.

The Blue Devils jumped on the home team early, grabbing a 7-0 lead before Owego to get on the scoreboard,

The Indians fought back on the strength of a four-run third inning to close the gap to 7-5. With Owego trailing, 7-1, Saylor Ayres started the comeback attempt with a walk and scored on a Lauren Gilbert single. Alex Aubel would plate Gilbert with a bunt single, then Sarah Terry and Aubel would score on an error off the bat of Carly Kirtland.

Forks would cushion its lead with three runs in the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Grace Cadden and Bella Hovancik, a base hit and an error.

Owego was only able to get one more run back afterward. Taylor Dalton walked and advanced to third on a pair of passed balls in the bottom of the seventh, and scored on a Greeno single to left. CF would end the game with a double play followed by a ground out.

The Indians scored their initial run in the second on an Aubel single and an error following a Kirtland ground ball.

Forks scored four runs in the first inning on a double, four singles and a hit batter.

The Devils added three in the second on a double, Cadden's two-run home run and three more singles.

Cadden had three hits, three runs and three RBI for CF. Michelle Boyle, Kailee Young and Lauren Simmons added three hits apiece to the team's 17 -hit barrage.

Aubel collected two hits, two runs and an RBI for the Indians. Greeno contributed two hits and an RBI, Green had a hit, run and RBI, Ava Brown added a hit, and Aubel and Dalton tacked on one run apiece.

Owego hosts Sidney Wednesday at 5 p.m.
