COLLEGE BASKETBALL: OWEGO'S COLEMAN SIGNS WITH BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY (2021-05-13)

OWEGO — Owego girls basketball fans have known for months that Evee Coleman was planning on pursuing a Division I career. On Tuesday, the senior guard made it official, signing a National Letter of Intent to attend Binghamton University.

"I chose Binghamton because of the family-like  team and coaching staff," she said. "It’s also close to home so it’ll be awesome to have my family and friends come to watch as well."

Her approach to the game has made her a dominant factor at both end of the court and one of the best players in program history. 

"I am extremely competitive and will never give up no matter what," she said. "I work very hard and the team can always count on me." 

"Evee has a lot to offer the BU program," Owego girls basketball coach Luke McEvoy said. "She is a wonderful teammate, who truly cares and wants the best for the rest of her team. She is determined and driven on and off the court and is willing to do whatever it takes to be successful.  Her work ethic and passion for the game are infectious and will only help to push her teammates to be the best versions of themselves. 

"I believe her impact on the court will come from her versatility.  She has a well-rounded game that will only continue to improve under coach (Bethann Shapiro) Ord and her staff. Evee's ability to handle the ball and shoot from the outside will open up a lot of options and opportunities for herself and her teammates. I look forward to being able to watch her continued growth as she still has a lot of untapped potential."

Coleman has been one of the area's top defensive players and has averaged double digits in scoring and rebounds the past three season, but realizes she has room to improve.

"I need to continue to work on my strength to become more explosive and get more power," she said.

Academically, Coleman will pursue a degree in Biology.

The Bearcats compete in the America East Conference.
