NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley rolled to its second lopsided victory of the week, defeating Odessa-Montour, 17-2, in six innings here Wednesday.
Coming off a 19-1 rout of Watkins Glen Monday, the Cardinals erupted for 10 fourth-inning runs to seal the win. Already leading, 6-0, NV sent 15 batters to the plate, scoring its runs with two away.
Hayley Beebe had two singles, and Mackenzie Malone and Allie Walker scored two runs apiece to highlight the uprising. Malone, Allie Walker, Rachel Walker, Wright and Ari Westbrook drove in one run apiece.
The Indians would head into the fifth needing two runs to stay alive and go them on a pair of errors, an RBI double from Kelsey Bates and a groundout by Mackenzie Cannon.
NV countered in its half of the fifth with Cymbri Jefferson's single between first and second, Allie Wandell's bloop single to right and Hayley Beebe's bloop single to center.
The Cardinals grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second behind doubles from Malone and Wright. Rachel Walker and Wright scored their second runs of the game in the third, helping push the NV advantage to 6-0.
Malone and Wright recorded two hits and three runs apiece, Hayley Beebe and Westbrook had two hits and a run each, Rachel Walker added a hit and three runs, Bri Beebe and Allie Walker tacked on a hit and two runs apiece, Katie Berghorn and Cymbri Jefferson had a hit and run each, and Wandell had two hits.
Newark Valley visits S-VE Saturday.
