IAC SOFTBALL: S-VE DROPS WILD ONE TO TIOGA (2021-05-12)

TIOGA CENTER — It was a wild and crazy game — 34 hits, 29 runs, nine errors — and when all was said and done, Tioga emerged with a 17-12 IAC South Small School victory over S-VE here Tuesday.
The Tigers scored a pair of runs in each of the first three innings, but S-VE rallied from a 7-4 deficit to tie the game in the top of the fifth inning. A lead-off double by Raegan Sudnikovich, followed by singles from Christina Beebe and Hannah Martinez, and a one-out single from Sydney Presher highlighted the comeback.
Tioga doubled its run output in the bottom of the fifth, spurred on by Mykenzie Thetga's three-run home run.
The Panthers battled back with five runs in the top of the sixth, led by Gillian Jackman's two-run triple, closing the gap to 14-12, but a two-run double by Thetga made it 17-12 heading into the final frame. The Tigers Kindra Wessels retired the side, two by strikeout to end the game.
Martinez and Jackman paced S-V E's 11-hit attack. Martinez smacked two hits, including a triple, and had three runs and three RBI. Jackman added a triple, a run and three RBI. Sudnikovich contributed a single, double and three runs; Sydney Presher had two hits and two RBI, Christina Beebe chipped in with two hits and two runs; Rhiana Lawrence added a hit and two runs; and Faith Brenchley tacked on a hit and run.
For Tioga (3-2), Thetga drove in six runs with a homer and a double. Austyn Vance had three hits, including a homer and double, and had two runs and two RBI. Wessels, who struck out 12 to pick up the win, helped her own cause with four hits, one a double, four runs and two RBI. Alissa Hines pitched in with three hits, one being a double, two RBI and a run. Abby Foley added three hits, two RBI, and a run; Olivia Ayres recorded three hits and two runs; Gabby Foley had two hits, a run and an RBI; Mackenzie Luther added two hits and two runs; and Julia Bellis tacked on a hit, run and RBI.
S-VE (4-1) heads to Newfield today.
