IAC SOFTBALL: NEWARK VALLEY RACKS UP HITS, RUNS, THEFTS FOR FIRST VICTORY (2021-05-11)

WATKINS GLEN — Newark Valley cranked out 18 hits and stole 19 bases while Ari Westbrook twirled a one-hitter as the Cardinals rolled to a 20-1, 5-inning IAC victory here Monday.

The first five batters reached safely and scored and NV never looked back in registering its first win of the season.

Allie Wandell reached on an error to get things going, Hayley Beebe followed with a single, Bri Beebe got on via error, Mackenzie Malone smacked a two-run double and Jasmine Graham added an RBI single. One out later, Allie Walker delivered a one-out single and NV was on its way to a 5-0 advantage.

Wandell would lead off the second inning as well, and she and the Beebe sisters would hit consecutive singles, both driving in a run to make the score 8-0.

Kalyna Graham would walk to start the third, then Wandell, the Beebes and Malone followed with base hits, and Jasmine Graham belted a double. She and Bri Beebe drove in two runs each, Malone added another, and Allie walker singled home the final run of the inning to build a 14-0 Cardinal cushion.

A pair of errors put Wandell and Hayley Beebe on in the fourth and both scored to push the lead to 16-0.

The Senecas would erase the goose egg in their half of the fourth as Amanda Wilber reached on an error and eventually scored.

Newark Valley would add four more runs in the fifth to end the game via the mercy rule (15-run lead after five innings).

Rachel Walker reached on an error, Cymbri Jefferson and Kalyna Graham followed with RBI singles, Wandell cranked out a two-run triple and Bri Beebe added an RBI single.

Wandell finished the game going 3-for-5 with five runs, five stolen bases and two RBI; Hayley Beebe went 3-for-5 with four runs, three stolen bases and two RBI; and Bri Beebe was 3-for-5 with three runes, two stolen bases and four RBI.

Malone went 2-for-2 with two runs, three RBI and a stolen base; Jasmine Graham was 2-for-3 with two runs, four RBI and a stolen base; Allie Walker was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases; Kalyna Graham went 1-for-3 with two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI; Jefferson tacked on a hit, run, RBI and stolen base; and Rachel Walker added a run and two stolen bases; and Westbrook had a hit.

Westbrook struck out three, walked four and hit one batter.

NV hosts Odessa-Montour Wednesday.
