IAC BASEBALL: SVEC STUMBLES LATE IN LOSS TO WAVERLY (2021-05-10)

Tioga County Sports Report
VAN ETTEN — Waverly is chasing an IAC Division 3 title while SVEC came into Monday's clash seeking its first win of the season.

The Eagles held their own through the first four innings, but a six-run uprising in the top of the fifth inning carried the Wolverines to a 14-5 victory.

Jay Pipher came on in relief of Brennan Traub in the bottom of the fourth with the score tied at five and the bases loaded with one away. He struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam, then the Waverly offense took over.

Jack Barrett pitched the fifth and sixth innings to pick up the win, and Ty Beeman closed out the game. The four Wolverine pitchers combined to scatter four hits and three walks, striking out nine and giving up three earned runs.

Beeman and Traub helped themselves at the plate as well. Beeman had three hits, including a home run, two runs and five RBI; and Traub went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs and an RBI.

Caden Hollywood contributed two hits, one being a double, and score a run; Pipher had a hit, two runs and two RBI; Thomas Hand chipped in with a triple and three runs; Barrett had a hit and an RBI; Kaden Wheeler and Brady Blauvelt had a hit, run and RBI apiece; and Joey Tomasso and Nick VanHouton scored one run each.

Devin Beach had two of SVEC's four hits. Jayden Grube pitched in with a hit, run and two RBI; Garrett Cooke scored twice; David Vega had a run and RBI; Kameron Smith had a hit and RBI; and Logan Jewell scored a run.
