IAC BOYS TENNIS: FINALLY BACK ON THE COURT, NEWARK VALLEY FALLS TO NOTRE DAME (2021-05-10)

Tioga County Sports Report
SOUTHPORT — After getting rained out part way through its season opener a week ago, the Newark Valley tennis team finally got to play a full match here Monday.

Host Elmira Notre Dame, which dropped a total of four games in a 5-0 win over Moravia last week, had a little bit tougher time with the Cardinals before pulling out another 5-0 victory.

Alannah Deer went the full three sets against Kathryn Welliver at third singles. Deer won the second set, 7-5, but dropped the first, 6-2 and third, 6-0.

At No. 1 singles, Mackenna Nechwedowich lost to Alexandra Meier, 6-3, 6-1.

At second singles, Kelsey Kerns fell to Rachel Tsang, 6-0, 6-2.

Megan Felicetti lost to Renata Russo, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 singles.

In the lone doubles match of the day, Tatiana Tarbox and Clara McCloskey went down to Junjie (Jermey) Qin and Jade Nordin, 6-1, 6-4.

NV is back on the road Tuesday at Watkins Glen.

NOTE: Although it is technically boys tennis season, schools which do not have a girls tennis program are permitted to allow girls on the boys team.
