WALTON — Emma Clark registered a hat trick and Newark Valley scored five second-half goals to rally past Walton, 5-3, in Section IV field hockey action here Wednesday.
The Warriors' Katelyn Ostrander broke a scoreless deadlock with 56 seconds remaining in the first quarter, putting a loose ball in the cage. Emma Caprio was credited with the assist.
Walton would carry a 2-0 lead into halftime after Caprio put away a rebound with 8:47 left in the second period.
Clark notched her first goal at 11:24 of the third quarter on a hard drive off a pass from then right side by Taylor Benjamin.
She would tie the score with 1:28 left in the period on a pass from the left with Chloe Yetter and Michelle Brooks assisting.
Clark finished off the hat trick with an unassisted goal off Walton goalie Kora Young's pads, giving the Cardinals a 3-2 edge with 59 seconds to go in the quarter.
The lead would be short-lived, however, as Ostrander scored on a penalty corner at the buzzer with Abigail DelBalso assisting.
The final period belonged to NV as Yetter scored unassisted on a shot from in front of the goal with 9:04 on the clock.
Amber Slavik contributed an insurance goal on a cross from Benjamin with 6:55 remaining.
Newark Valley held a 14-8 advantage in shots and an 8-2 lead in corners.
Sandra Vaughn made three saves for NV and Mackenzie Malone had a defensive save. Young had nine saves for Walton.
The Cardinals (3-7) play Deposit / Hancock Saturday morning at Windsor.
