OWEGO — Owego scored twice in a span of 90 seconds early in the game and made it hold up for a 2-0 STAC boys soccer victory over Seton Catholic here Wednesday night.

Yuri Brich tallied his team-high 10th goal of the season with 30:16 to go in the first half, launching a ball from Hunter Wuerthner into the upper left corner of the goal.

Logan Belokur made it 2-0 with 28:46 on the clock, scoring on a cross from Brich.

The Indians dominated possession and kept the ball in the Saints' half of the field the majority of the game and applied heavy pressure throughout the first half.

"The first 20 minutes, very good," Owego coach Alessio De Michele said. "We started out on the front foot, which is what we wanted. We got numbers on the attack and an amount of chances, and some good goals. Then we were a little on cruise control, which is a good and a bad thing. We kept possession pretty well, which is always something we want to do. We want to be the team on the front foot.

"Credit to Seton. They reacted and made it a little bit more difficult too with their adjustments, so they gave us a different problem to solve, and we still looked to score some more goals, which I would have been a bit more happy about. It's the perfectionist in me, but the boys have been working really hard."

Seton did manage to cut Owego's shots by about one-third in the second half.

"I was a little disappointed the start of the second half," De Michele said. "I thought things were too slow, taking one too many touches on the ball, not having the movement in behind that we had the first half, but then the guys kind of sorted themselves out, and the last bit was good again.

Seton would take just two shots on goal with Owego's Hunter Sisson making one save and the other shot glancing off the outside of the left post.

Ian Phillips was much busier at the Saints' end of the field, collecting no fewer than a dozen saves in goal.

The Indians took eight shots in the first 10 minutes of action, two hitting the post and another going over the crossbar, then the eighth shot turned out to be all Owego would need to improve to 5-4 on the season.

"Looking forward to next week and finishing on a strong note," De Michele said.

Owego hosts Norwich Monday and travels to Chenango Wednesday.
