NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley picked up two falls, two forfeits and won a pair of one-point thrillers to defeat Lansing, 36-24, in IAC action here Tuesday.
Josh Duke got the Cardinals off to a good start, pinning Caleb Georgia in 1:29 at 285 pounds.
Following a forfeit to James Hackett at 110, Cadin Creeley registered NV's first close victory with a 6-5 decision over Andrew McMillen at 118. Creeley trailed, 2-0, after one period and was down, 5-2, before recording an escape and takedown to tie the score in the second period. He would get away for another point in the final period.
Connor Vanzile would receive a forfeit at 132 to give NV a 21-0 advantage, but the Bobcats would trim it to 21-18 with a pair of forfeit wins and Anthony McMillen's pin of Kaiden Pado in 1:57.
Like Creeley, the Cardinals' Jonah Williams (160) would win on a third-period escape, edging Collin Larratt, 8-7. Williams trailed, 4-3, heading into the second period and was behind, 7-3, before knotting up the bout with a reversal and near fall.
At 172, the Bobcats' Jermaine Fisher pinned Josiyah Young in 2:22 to tie the match at 24 apiece.
Peter Basti scored a quick pin of Logan Kohlenberg at 189, his 48-second fall clinching the team win for NV.
NV's Cam Carrier receiveda forfeit at 215 to end the match.
In exhibition matches, Basti pinned Jermaine Fisher in 1:14 and Joe Woodmansee decked Georgia in 3:01. Lansing's Jack Emmick pinned Pado in 22 seconds and Kohlenberg scored a fall in 1:18 over Brice Dunn.
Newark Valley hosts Owego Wednesday.
