IAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO TAKES TWO FROM TIOGA (2021-03-01)

TIOAG COUNTY — The Newark Valley JV girls took two games from Tioga last week, winning, 39-20, at home Thursday and 46-17 on the road Saturday.

NEWARK VALLEY 46, TIOGA 17
Jasmine and Kalyna Graham combined to score 32 points in Saturday's win.

Kalyna Graham scored six points to give NV an 8-2 lead after one period. She added a pair of baskets in the second quarter while Jasmine Graham notched seven points, giving NV a 25-4 cushion.

Jasmine Graham pumped out 11 more points in the second half to finish with a game-high 20 points.

Mackenzie Day scored six of her 10 in the final frame.

Sarah Raymond added four points to the win.

Kyra Bailey led Tioga with 10 points, including two 3-pointers. Lily Mesler added five points and Sadie Parker tacked on two.

NEWARK VALLEY 39, TIOGA 20
The Grahams teamed up for 34 points in Thursday's victory with Kalyna scoring 22. She pumped out eight points in the first quarter and another eight in the third.

The Cardinals led by six after one period, 14-8, and at the break, 20-14. They extended their advantage to 28-18 heading into the final period, where the defense held the Tigers to two points.

Raymond added four points for NV, Day and Faith Payne scored two apiece, and Lia Quick had a point.

Mesler paced Tioga with seven points, Bailey scored five, and Parker and Megan Vance added four apiece.
