NEWARK VALLEY — Bri Beebe scored 20 points and Mackenna Nechwedowich registered a double-double to lead Newark Valley to a 61-47 non-league victory over Horseheads here Friday evening.

The Cardinals offset 10 Blue Raider 3-pointers by pumping out 23 third-quarter points to take control of the game, building a 51-38 advantage. Bri Beebe's 15 points in the period included a 5-for-5 effort at the free thrown line while the NV defense held Horseheads to 11 points.

Newark Valley grabbed an 18-10 lead in the first quarter on the strength of six Nechwedowich points, four more from Hannah Ferguson, and one trey apiece by Bri Beebe and Allie Wandell.

The Raiders fought back to close within a point, 28-27, at intermission. The rally included two threes each by Maddie Johnson and Kellie Zoerb, and one trey from Sophia Bonnell.

The Horseheads trio canned three threes apiece on the night and the Raiders picked up a 10th trey from Jenna Granger. Unfortunately for the visitors, they only made five field goals of the two-point variety.

Nechwedowich scored 16 points, pulled down 15 rebounds and dished out five assists while Bri Beebe also contributed five steals and four assists to the victory. Ferguson chipped in with eight points, three assists and two blocks. Gracie Gardner had five points, and Cha Gardner and Allie Wandell added four each. Cha Gardner also had four assists, two blocks and two steals. Hayley Beebe scored two points, handed out two assists and blocked one shot, and Rachel Walker had two points and two assists.

Horseheads was led by Johnson's 11 points, and nine more from both Bonnell and Zoerb.

NV (6-1) visits Tioga (1-5) Saturday.
