IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: QUICK START PROPELS CANDOR PAST TIOGA (2021-02-17)

CANDOR — A quick start out of the gate pushed Candor to an early double-digit advantage and the Indians went on to defeat Tioga, 61-40, in IAC action here Wednesday evening.

Bryce Mills and Cooper Thayer each scored a field goal and 3-point basket to highlight the burst. Nick Thomas and Will Zimmer contributed four points each.

The Indians received threes from Joel Dougherty and Zack Watson in the second quarter, and Zimmer added three points, but the Tigers picked up seven points from Evan Sickler and five from Ethan Perry to match Candor's 14-point second period, leaving the Indians ahead, 34-23.

Threes by Hunter Haynes and Watson helped Candor inch its advantage to 42-30 heading into the fourth quarter.

Dougherty put up six points over the final eight minutes and Thayer added five, and the Indians went 8-for-15 at the free throw line to clinch their second win in four games.

Dougherty and Thayer paced the Indians with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Thomas, Mills and Zimmer put up nine points apiece, Watson had six and Haynes added three.

Perry led all scorers with 17 points. Sickler had seven, Josh Reis netted six, Casey Stoughton and Isaac Peterson added four apiece, and Gavin Godfrey had two.

Candor (2-2) hosts Owego (3-0) Feb. 25.
