COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: OWEGO GRAD THOMAS, SUNY GENESEO EARN ACADEMIC AWARD (2020-08-21)

GENESEO, N.Y. — First-year setter Grace Thomas and the SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team were recently honored with the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award. 

The USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams (men and women, indoor and beach) which display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.3 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

The Knights combined to carry a 3.44 GPA in the fall and a 3.79 GPA in the spring. Thomas, an Owego grad, carried a 4.0 for both semesters. Junior Kiersten Colvin posted a 4.0 in the fall while seniors Kat Vernon and Sam Mendelsohn, sophomore Maddie McLaughlin and first-year Emily Haber recorded a 4.0 in the spring.

Thomas started 16 matches as Geneseo (18-12) finished as the SUNYAC tournament runner-up. She led the team with 816 assists, ranking her 16th all-time for a single season. She also had 295 digs, third highest on the squad, and added 49 kills and 21 aces.
