FLUSHING, N.Y. — Owego grad Kayla Hanky, a freshman at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice has been named a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) second-team all-star.

She was 7-3 in singles (3-2 in the CUNYAC) and 7-3 in doubles (4-1 in conference play).

Hanky competed at fourth singles in eight of 12 matches for the Bloodhounds, where she posted an 8-0 shutout against Sarah Lawrence College and a 6-0, 6-0 shutout vs. York College. She also recorded a three-match winning streak and won back-to-back matches twice.

She also competed at second doubles with Briana Schmidt, who was named second-team all-conference for a second straight year. The duo competed at No. 2 doubles in all but one match and at one point registered a six consecutive match victories.

The pair avenged an 8-4 loss to Baruch College's Lauren Kraker and Natalie Ibelhaupt during the regular season by taking the rematch in the CUNYAC/HSS semifinals by an 8-6 verdict. Baruch, which defeated John Jay, 9-0, in regular-season play, avoided an upset in the conference semis with a 5-3 win.

Hanky was also a nominee for the John Jay Rookie of the Year honor.
