COLLEGE SPORTS: CANDOR'S JENSEN TAKING TRACK & FIELD TALENT TO SUNY GENESEO (2020-04-13)

CANDOR — Lance Jensen has left a memorable mark on the Candor track & field program. The record-setting senior will look to make his mark at SUNY Geneseo next.

He will compete for the Knights in sprints and hurdles, and has already decided his field of study.

"I am planning on studying Biology with a focus on physical therapy," Jensen said. "I chose this because science and the human body is very interesting to me. I find satisfaction in helping others when it comes to injuries. This is what drove me to physical therapy."

The friendly atmosphere surrounding the campus and track team members helped draw Jensen to Geneseo, which is located south of Rochester and about two two hours away home.

"The thing that attracted me to this school the most was probably the campus and the members on the track team," he said. "When I walked onto campus and met the athletes for the first time they all made me feel at home and welcome. I realized that they were all there to run because of the pure love of the sport, not just because they had to be. This was something I could connect to on a personal level and it attracted me to the program even more.

With the NCAA's current ban on recruiting, Jensen has not been able to sign a National Letter of Intent, although he's unsure at this time if he will.

"I have not signed a letter of intent, but I have submitted my deposits to the school. I'm not sure if I am, or if I will, sign a letter of intent," he said. "I still have to talk to the coach some more about that."

Jensen placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles at the state championships last season and missed qualifying for states by less than a quarter of a second in the 110 hurdles.

He competed in several events for the Indians during the 2019 season. In addition to the hurdles, he also competed the 100, 200, 4x400 and 4x800 relays, the long jump and the discus at various meets.

Geneseo is the defending SUNYAC champion.
