CANDOR — Candor senior Brayden Ferris is taking his bat and glove and heading over to the baseball diamond at Tompkins Cortland Community College this fall.

He signed his letter of intent to attend TC3 online prior to the NCAA recruiting ban due to Covid-19.

"I will be playing baseball for coach (Billy) Crowe in the spring and major in Exercise Science too," Ferris said.

"What attracted me to this school is the baseball program and Exercise Science programs," he added. "TC3 also has transfer aid into Ithaca College and I plan to attend Ithaca to continue studies on exercise sciences and play baseball.

"Coach Crowe also was a big attraction for choosing TC3, he has a good resume on helping kids play at the next level."

Ferris played three years of varsity baseball and his skills were recognized when IAC coaches picked their all-star teams.

"My sophomore year I was honored with All-Conference Honorable Mention for baseball. My junior year I was honored with First-Team All-Conference," he said.

Ferris was also named the Tioga County Sports Report 2019 Defensive Player of the Year on the inaugural All-Tioga County Baseball Team.

Ferris is the top returnee from the Candor team, which had merged this season with S-VE to become the SVEC Eagles.

"Last year, Brayden led the team in both defensive and offensive categories," SVEC co-coach Cliff Pierce said.

The 2019 season may not happen, but Pierce knows how his star player will benefit the team if it does.

"Brayden will be playing first base, catcher, and doing some pitching," he said.

Ferris hit .514 (18-for-35) last season with a .614 on-base percentage, .571 slugging average  and 1.185 on-base plus slugging percentage.
