TIOGA COUNTY — Tioga County girls basketball teams boasted some true talent on the hardwoods this season — and it didn't go unnoticed by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York.

The BCANY selected Owego's Kaci Donovan and Evee Coleman, Newark Valley's Mackenna Nechwedowich and Waverly's Sidney Tomasso to the All-Section IV first-team and NV's Hannah Ferguson to the second team.

Donovan would also earn the honor of being named the BCANY "Player of the Year."

The Penn State-bound Donovan leaves as the Owego's' all-time leading scorer, boys or girls, with 1,974 points, breaking the record set in 2005 by Kyle Dougherty, who went on to play at Villanova. She also set the single-game record of 55 points.

Donovan averaged 27.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 3.4 assists per game. A senior, she was named the All-Tioga County "Player of the Year" for a second consecutive year and the All-Tioga County girls "Athlete of the Winter."

Coleman, was one of just two players in Tioga County to average a double-double, scoring 20.2 points while pulling down 13 rebounds per game. She also averaged 2.9 blocks, 2.1 steals and 1.9 assists per outing. The junior forward would repeat as the All-Tioga County "Defensive Player of the Year" and be named an All-Tioga County top 10 girls "Athlete of the Winter."

The Donovan-Coleman duo led Owego to a 10-game win streak as the Indians advanced to the Section IV Class B semifinals, finishing the season 13-7 and ranked 21st in the state in Class B with a schedule which included seven games against state-ranked opponents.

Nechwedowich averaged 10.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.2 blocks, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game. The junior was an IAC South Large School first-team all-star, an All-Tioga County first-team pick and an All-Tioga County top 10 girls "Athlete of the Winter."

Ferguson averaged 8.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.9 steals per game. She also contributed 30 3-pointers. She was an IAC South Large School first-team all-star, an All-Tioga County first-team pick and an All-Tioga County top 10 girls "Athlete of the Winter."

Tomasso, a solid all-around player, led the Wolverines to a 15-5 record. The junior was named the IAC South Large School MVP, was also selected to the All-Tioga County first team and was chosen the Valley Sports Report "Player of the Year." She was also named the Valley Sports Report's Super 7 girls "Athlete of the Winter" and was also one of the All-Tioga County top 10 girls "Athletes of the Winter."

Tomasso averaged 19.8 points and six rebounds per game, as well as four assists and four steals per outing. She connected for 48 3-pointers this season and shot 85 percent from from the free throw line.
