COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD: NEWARK VALLEY GRAD SILBA SHARES IN RELAY RECORD (2020-04-02)

BUFFALO — In her final meet of the indoor track & field season, Newark Valley grad Marissa Silba ran a leg of Canisius College's record-setting 4x800 relay.

The freshman joined seniors Madeline Beaulieu and Rachel Joachimi, and sophomore Libby Benzer to set a new school mark of 9:42.56 at the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Track Championships. That time was more than two seconds faster than the previous record which was set in 2017 (9:45.12).

Silba placed fifth (5:33.62) in the mile run at the RIT Mid-Season Invitational and 13th (5:41.4) in the mile at the RIT Tiger Invitational.

She also competed in the 800 (34th, 2:36.22) at the Midwest Indoor Invitational, the 3,000 (37th, 11:51.76) at the Youngstown State National Mid-Major and the 4x800 relay (8th, 9:50.99) at the MAAC championships.

CROSS COUNTRY RECAP
Silba competed in six fall meets. She ran her top 5K time in the season-opening Little Three Championships, clocking 19:37.2 to place third out of 41 runners. Her best 6K time, 22:45.8, came during the NCAA Division I Northeast Region Championships. She took 194th out of 268 runners.
