TIOGA COUNTY — Waverly's Zach Vanderpool registered the highest average of any Tioga County bowler, which was also second-best in the IAC, earning him the honor of 2019-20 All-Tioga County “Bowler of the Year.”

The freshman was one of just two Tioga County keglers to carry a 200-plus average (217). His high game and series were 275 and 737, respectively. Vanderpool placed third individually at the league championships, was 25th at the Section IV Class C Championships and 22nd at the Section IV State Qualifier. He posted a 208 average over nine games at the qualifier.

Tioga freshman Gage Cain is the “Newcomer of the Year.” He recorded a 166 average to help the Tigers win the IAC Division 2 championship and place sixth at the league tournament. They were fourth at the Class D tournament and seventh in the state qualifier. Cain was 23rd at the Section IV Class D championships. During the season, he rolled a high game of 213 and had a 613 high series.

Waverly's Pete Girolamo is the "Coach of the Year." He mentored the Wolverines on their march to the IAC Division 1 title as they went 38-10 to battle past Newark Valley and Union Springs / Port Byron, both of which went 36-12. The team also won the IAC overall championship, placed third at the Class C tournament and fifth at the state qualifier. He was assisted by Greg Joseph and Don Wainwright.
