TIOGA COUNTY — The NYSPHSAA Division II Wrestling Championships take center stage while the Candor boys basketball team moves on to the Section IV Class C quarterfinals and the Owego basketball teams open the Class B tournaments at home.
BOYS BASKETBALL
6-Candor (13-7) at 3-Newfield, 6 p.m.: The Indians knocked off the Trojans, 67-65, and have won of their previous nine games. Candor is coming off a 68-39 romp against Lansing in the first round. IAC Small School champion Newfield opened the playoffs with an 85-52 romp over Harpursville.
6-Chenango Forks (12-7) at 3-Owego (9-9), 7:15 p.m.: The defending sectional champion Indians host the nightcap of an Owego-Forks doubleheader. The Blue Devils have won their last three, including a pair of impressive wins over IAC powers Whitney Point and Waverly. Owego has won two of its previous three outings.
GIRLS BASKETBALL7-Chenango Forks (8-12) at 2-Owego (12-6), 5:30 p.m.: The Indians come in riding a nine-game winning streak. Owego won the previous meeting in the season opener, 70-40. The Blue Devils have dropped three of their last four outings.
