NEW YORK STATE WRESTLING: OWEGO'S BUNDY SEEDED 3RD, NV'S POST IS NO. 8 FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS (2020-02-24)

ALBANY — Owego's Cam Bundy has drawn the third seed for while Newark Valley's Josh Post is seeded eighth for the NYSPHSAA Division II Wrestling Championships here.

Bundy, a junior and returning state qualifier, is seeded behind Norwich standout Mikey Squires (35-2) and Mt. Sinai's Matt Campo (40-2) at 170 pounds. He is 30-6 and bowed out in the "blood round" (one win shy of placing) at 170 last year.

Squires, a senior, is a three-time state place-winner, claiming runner-up honors at 152 last year. Campo, is making his third state tourney appearance. He placed third at 113 as a sophomore and fifth at 152 last year.

Bundy opens against Pawling (Section I) junior Mason Watkins (32-4), the 14th seed. With a win he would most likely face sixth-seeded Gouverneur (Section X) senior Tyler Tupper (30-7) in the quarterfinals.

Post (33-4) has drawn the eighth seed at 132 and will face Maple Grove (Section VI) sophomore Luke Tomlinson (43-2), the ninth seed, in the first round. With a victory he should face top-seeded Gage DeNatale (28-3) of Locust Valley (Section VIII) in the quarters.

Other Tioga County wrestlers competing in the state tournament include six from Tioga and one from Waverly.

The Tigers' returning state champion, Brady Worthing (42-0), a senior, is seeded first at 138. The Tigers also have third seeds in eighth-grader Caden Bellis (36-2) and sophomore Emmett Wood (36-6), fifth-seeded eighth-grader Gianni Silvestri (36-1), sixth-seeded freshman Donavan Smith (39-2) and 11th-seeded junior Mason Welch (30-9).

Waverly senior Ethan Stotler (41-1) is seeded 11th at 160.

Wrestling takes place at the Times Union Center and begins at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

NOTE: Owego's Matt Laubach was originally the fourth at-large pick at 106, but was bumped following the appeal process.
