SECTION IV BOYS SWIMMING & DIVING: OWEGO'S LAVO GARNERS 2 MEDALS; GAULT, RELAY FINISH IN TOP 5 AT CLASS B MEET (21 PHOTOS) (2020-02-22)

WATKINS GLEN — Owego's Brandon Lavo garnered two medals, and Adam Gault and the 400-yard freestyle relay placed in the top five at the Section IV Class B Boys Swimming & Diving Championships here Saturday.

Lavo, a senior, closed out his scholastic career with a runner-up showing in the 500 free and a bronze medal in the 200 free.

In the 500, he posted a time of 5:16.81, easing in ahead of all of the field with the exception of Chenango Valley standout Peyton Broderick, who touched the wall in 5:03.82.

Lavo clocked 1:55.03 in the 200, trimming almost 1 1/2 seconds off his time in Wednesday's preliminaries. He trailed only Broderick (1:47.128) and M-E's Billy Gorman (1:53.35) at the finish.

Gault, a junior, placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.13, 23-hundredths of a second faster than his preliminary time. He was also eighth in the 200 individual medley in 2:14.2.

Senior Joe Criscitello placed 13th in the 100 butterfly. His time of 1:05.11 was 1.72 seconds better than his preliminary time.

Freshman Gabe Snyder was 16th in the 100 free in 59.75 seconds. Originally an alternate, he moved into the "B" final when another competitor withdrew.

Gault, Criscitello, Snyder and Lavo claimed fourth place in the 400 free relay, recording a time of 3:45.12, bettering its preliminary time by 2.41 seconds.

The same foursome finished sixth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:40.49, nearly a second quicker than in the preliminary.

The 200 medley relay of James Morton, Jacob Krassin, Dominick Mahonski and Austin Tompkins took eighth in 2:08.21, knocking 3.74 seconds off its preliminary time. Morton is the lone senior in the quartet. Krassin is a sophomore, and Mahonski and Tompkins are freshmen.

Owego placed seventh in the eight-team meet with 141 points. M-E won the team title with 518, with Chenango Valley second (420) and Waverly third (283).
