IAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY CAPTURES THIRD STRAIGHT LARGE SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP (2020-02-19)

WHITNEY POINT — Newark Valley won its third consecutive IAC JV Girls Large School championship, crushing Whitney Point, 57-35, here Wednesday evening.

The Cardinals' offense was hot from the start, pumping out 21 points to grab a 21-14 lead after one quarter. Felicia Fiacco scored seven points and Haley Beebe put in six more.

The NV defense took over in the second period, holding the Golden Eagles to four points.

Meanwhile, Rachael Walker drained her second three-pointer of the game and Newark Valley built a 33-18 advantage at the break.

Walker and Kalyna Graham scored two baskets apiece in the third period and NV carried a 46-29 lead into the final stanza.

NV scored just field goals, but went 7-for-8 at the free throw line in the final eight minutes.

The Cardinals went 14-for-24 at the stripe overall with Jasmine Graham going 8-for-10 and Beebe going 6-for-8.

Beebe finished the night with a game-high 14 points while Walker had 12, Fiacco scored 11 and Jasmine Graham adding 10 more. Sarah Raymond and Kalyna Graham tacked on four apiece, and Katie Berghorn had two points.

Other Cardinal players included Breanna Brigham, Faith Payne, Cymbri Jefferson and Lia Quick.

Newark Valley finishes the season with an 18-1 record.
