NEW YORK STATE WRESTLING: OWEGO'S BUNDY, LAUBACH RECEIVE AT-LARGE BIDS TO CHAMPIONSHIPS (2020-02-19)

Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — Owego's Cam Bundy and Matt Laubach have received at-large bids to the NYSPHSAA Division II Wrestling Championships.

It will be Bundy's second trip to the state tournament. He was the Section IV Division II 170-pound champ last year and reached the "blood round" (final eight), going 2-2 on the weekend.

This season, the junior placed second in the section to Norwich's Mikey Squires, last year's state runner-up at 152 pounds. Bundy sports a 31-6 record with half his losses coming against Squires, who is ranked No. 1 in the state. Bundy received the first at-large spot.

It will be the state tourney debut for Laubach, a junior. He placed third in the sectional tournament and is 30-8 on the season. He was given the fourth and final at-large spot at 106.

A third Tioga County wrestler also received an at-large berth. Tioga's Mason Welch was the sectional runner-up to teammate Donavan Smith at 120. He was given the final at-large slot.

In all, Section IV received 11 at-large selections, giving the section 26 state tourney competitors.

Sectional champions from Tioga County include Newark Valley's Josh Post at 132, Waverly's Ethan Stotler (160), and the Tioga quintet of Gianni Silvestri (99), Caden Bellis (106), Smith, Brady Worthing (138) and Emmett Wood (152). Worthing is a returning state champion.

The state tournament will be held Feb. 28-29 at the Times-Union Center in Albany.
