IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: S-VE DEFEATS MORAVIA, 52-39, ON SENIOR NIGHT (2020-02-13)

SPENCER — S-VE received solid contributions from several players, especially the seniors, who were playing their final game.

The Panthers began distancing themselves from the visitors in the second quarter and went onto post a 52-39 IAC crossover victory here.

"Tonight was senior night and these five seniors played their hearts out!" S-VE coach Abby Gentile said. "Our defense was strong all night and we were able to get some good looks at the basket that we took advantage of."

Ava Bruehwiler scored five points and Sophia Dutra added four in the first quarter to offset nine by the Blue Devils' Kate Baylor and give S-VE a 13-12 edge.

Paige Grube put up five points in the second period to help battle Baylor's six and the Panthers would build a 25-19 advantage heading into halftime.

In the third quarter, Madelynn Pasto and Bruehwiler scored five and four points, respectively, and S-VE pushed its lead to 40-30 heading into the game's final eight minutes.

Baylor added six more points for Moravia in the third, but was held to just one 3-pointer in the final frame.

Grube drained a pair of treys in the fourth quarter to finish with a team-high 13 points. She also grabbed six steals and handed out four assists.

Sam Deppe added 10 points and three steals; Bruehwiler had nine points and five rebounds; and Pasto pitched in with eight points, three assists and three steals.

Tara Perkins added six points and a block; Dutra had four points, three assists and a block; and Hannah Martinez tacked on two points.

Baylor led Moravia with 24 points.

S-VE finishes the season with a 2-15 record.
