NEWARK VALLEY — State-ranked Watkins Glen rode a strong first half to a 73-50 IAC South Large School win over Newark Valley here Monday.
Owen Scholtisek got the Senecaas going with 10 first quarter points which included two 3-pointers, giving WG a 22-13 lead.
Caden Bennett scored four points while Brenton Rosenberg and Donavin Beebe drained one three apiece for NV.
The Senecas extended their advantage to 44-24 at thew half as six players put points on the scoreboard. Raidyn Ford notched seven for the Cardinals.
Adam Pastore scored seven points in the third as WG pushed its lead to 62-37 heading into the final frame. Hunter Kelly had four points, and Bennett and Ethan Bigelow canned one trey each for NV.
Beebe added five points in the fourth and Ford gave NV its fifth three of the night.
Ford would lead the Cardinals with 13 points, Bennett scored 11 and Beebe had 10. Rosenberg added five, Hunter Kelly and Bigelow had four apiece, Jake Armstrong scored two and Jaden Short added one.
Scholtisek pumped out a game-high 18 points for WG, ranked 14th in Class C. Pastore had 12 and Isaac McIlroy added 10.
NV (2-13) closes out the season with three more home games — Edison (4-13) tonight, Southern Cayuga Thursday and McGraw Friday.
