IAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: CANDOR PICKS UP TWO MORE WINS (2020-01-20)

CANDOR — Candor overcame a pair of slow starts to post two IAC JV crossover victories last week.

CANDOR 52, WATKINS GLEN 45
The Indians trailed, 12-8, after a quarter and 28-22 at the half in Tuesday's IAC South clash.

The second half would be a different story as Candor scored 15 points in each of the final two periods while holding WG to 17 combined.

Zach Watson scored a game-high 21 points which included five 3-pointers. He scored all his points in the final three quarters.

Cooper Thayer contributed 14 points with one three. Hunter Haynes pitched in with 10 and had a trey as well. Will Zimmer accounted for the Indians' other seven points.

Thayer pulled down eight rebounds, grabbed three steals, dished out three assists and blocked one shot; Haynes had five steals and four assists; Watson added three steals and a block; Seth McBride handed out three assists; Zimmer had six boards and two blocks and Cole Strong tacked on a block.

Jacob Powers and Joseph Sutterby led the Senecas with 16 and 13 points, respectively.

CANDOR 58, SOUTHERN CAYUGA 35
It didn't take the Indians as long to rally in Friday's IAC Small School meeting.

They trailed by a point after the first eight minutes of play, but scored 17 second-quarter points to go ahead to stay at the half, 26-17.

Candor exploded in the third period with a 20-5 run to put the game out of reach.

Thayer scored a game-high 17 points, canning a pair of threes of going 7-for-8 at the free throw line. He also had nine rebounds, five steals, three blocks and three assists.

Watson added 13 points, including three treys, and also contributed five boards, three steals and three assists.

McBride put up a dozen points; Zimmer added eight and a block; Strong had four points; David Vega had two points; and Haynes and Zeb Soper tacked on one point each. Haynes also handed out seven assists.

Isaiah Richardson led the Chieftains with seven points.

Next up for Candor is a road trip to Union Springs Friday.
