IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: CANDOR RALLIES TO DEFEAT SOUTHERN CAYUGA (2020-01-18)

CANDOR — Candor shut down the Southern Cayuga offense in the fourth quarter to rally for a 59-52 IAC Small School crossover game here Friday evening.

The Indians would actually rally twice during the contest. Trailing, 20-12, after the first quarter, Candor came back to knot the score at 31 at halftime. The Chieftains surged back in front, 49-43, in the third quarter.

Kolden Foster accounted for seven of Candor's 16 fourth-quarter points and Alex Doucett tacked on five more.

The Indians went 12-for-22 at the free throw line, but were 5-for-7 in the final frame.

Foster and SAC's Steven Sherman shared game-high honors with 16 points apiece. However, Sherman was held in check after a 12-point first-quarter outburst.

Daniel Thomas scored his 13 points in the middle two periods on three 3-pointers and 4-for-4 free throw shooting. Nick Thomas added 11 points, all in the first half, and Doucett finished with nine. Brayden Ferris and Joel Dougherty pitched in with four points each, and Joey marsh added two more.

The Chieftains' Jared Howe had 10 of his 12 points in the third period, but was ineffective in the scoring column otherwise.

Candor (6-6) visits Union Springs (8-4) Friday.
