IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: CANDOR FALLS TO STATE-RANKED WATKINS GLEN (2020-01-15)

WATKINS GLEN — Candor dropped a 44-21 decision on the road to Watkins Glen, ranked 20th in the state in Class C, Tuesday night.

Playing against a very physical Senecas team and without their second leading scorer, Jennah Kareem (12.4 points per game), the Indians struggled on the offensive end of the floor. The Indians were outscored 16-3, 11-7 and 15-4 in the first three quarters before finally taking the fourth quarter 7-2.

Candor received eight points from Braelyn Hornick on two field goals and 4-of-7 shooting from the free throw line. She added nine rebounds and two steals. Kilie Streeter had three points from a field goal and a free throw, and pulled down five rebounds along with two steals. Meckenzie Marsh, Kadrianna Foster, Brooke Wilcox, Pearl Ricardo and Shelby Swartz all had two points each.

Candor, now 3-8 overall but, 3-3 in IAC Small School play, returns to action Friday at Southern Cayuga.

JV: The Candor juniors won their first game of the season over Watkins, 28-20. The Indians led 4-2 after the first quarter and 11-4 at the half. After dropping the third quarter 7-4, Candor came back to take the final frame 13-9.

Candor received scoring from Kara Morse with nine, Neena Kurtz and Alexis Kane with six apiece, Janelle Marsh with four, Lilliana Mills with two, and Serenity Hall with one.
