FALLSBURG, N.Y. — Newark Valley's Josh Post dropped his opening match at the Eastern States Classic here Friday.
Competing at 126 pounds, which was reseeded prior to the start of wrestling, Post (20-2) faced Thomas DiResta (18-1) of King's Park (Long Island) in the Round of 32. DiResta, seeded 12th and ranked third in Section XI Division I, posted a 5-0 decision over the Cardinal wrestler, who is seeded 21st ands is currently ranked No. 1 in Section IV Division II at 132.
The duo battled through a scoreless first period and Post started on bottom in the second. DiResta worked a tilt with 40 seconds remaining in the period to score a pair of near fall points.
In the third period, DiResta picked up an escape 13 seconds after the whistle. He would lock up the win with a takedown on the edge of the mat with 47 seconds to go.
He will face the winner of 26th-seeded Hunter Lundberg from Putnam Valley / Haldane and unseeded Nick Pepe of Bethpage in the consolation bracket
Eastern States has been tabbed the most competitive tournament in New York state. This year's tournament has drawn 570 competitors from 175 schools in six states.
