CANDOR — Marathon lived up to its billing here Tuesday night, building a big lead en route to a 62-55 IAC Small School crossover victory over Candor.
The Olympians, ranked 12th in the state in Class D, put up 20 points in the first quarter, built a 39-24 lead at half time and extended their advantage to 52-31 heading into the final frame.
Nick Thomas led a fairly-balanced scoring attack for the Indians, scoring 11 points. He dished out six assists and grabbed five rebounds.
Kolden Foster put up nine points, pulled down six boards and had three steals, and Marcus Rypkema contributed eight points, six boards and a block.
Alex Doucett registered seven points, four assists and a block; Joel Dougherty had seven points and seven boards; Lance Jensen added six points; Daniel Thomas had five points and four assists; and Bryce Mills added two points.
Diego Castellot, a first-team all-state selection last season, led Marathon (8-1) with 22 points, including three 3-pointers. Andrew Tillotson, a fourth-team all-state pick, put up 13 points, as did Kenyon DePuy.
Candor (5-4) visits Moravia (5-4) Friday.
