TIOGA COUNTY — The NYSPHSAA Cross Country Championships take center stage this week as four of the five Tioga County teams have qualified runners. Also on tap are football and volleyball regional events.

CROSS COUNTRY
Newark Valley, Owego, SVEC, Waverly at NYSPHSAA championships at SUNY Plattsburgh:
Three-time Section IV Class B boys champion Owego kicks off the day with the first race at 9:30 a.m. while NV's Jonny Sherwood, SVEC's Callum Avery and Waverly's Collin Wright compete in the Class C boys race at 10 a.m. The girls take center stage at 11:30 a.m. with Abigail Fahey and Hannah Monell representing the Owego girls in the Class B race, then Waverly's Sheridan Talada and Elizabeth Fritzen run in the Class C event at noon.

FOOTBALL
Tioga (10-0) vs. Frankfort-Schuyler (8-2) at Vestal, 5 p.m. Friday:
The Tigers are 8-0 against Section III in Central Region championship games. The Maroon Knights avenged a pair of regular-season losses with recent upsets of the first and third seeds. Tioga is coming off a high-scoring victory over rival Walton.

VOLLEYBALL
Owego (15-1) vs. Ardsley or Red Hook at Corning, 2 p.m.: 
The winner heads to state pool play.

Candor (20-0) at Jamesville-DeWitt, 7 p.m.: The winner qualifies for state pool play.
