SECTION IV GIRLS SWIMMING & DIVING: STEPHENSON LEADS OWEGO AT FINALS (2019-11-09)

WATKINS GLEN — Owego's Emma Stephenson won two individual events and was a member of two winning relays at the Section IV Class B Swimming & Diving Championships.
Stephenson won the 200-yard freestyle and the 500 freestyle with times of 2:04.44 and 5:37.07, respectively.
She also teamed with Ashleigh Gault, Jennifer Scott and Katie Shoen to win the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay. The quartet posted a time of 1:52.45 in the medley relay and 1:43.02 in the free relay.
Gault contributed an individual victory as well, clocking 1:01.22 in the 100 backstroke.
Runners-up for Owego were Jennifer Scott in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.19, Katie Shoen in the 100 free in 55.12 seconds, and Emma French in the 100 back in 1:03.27.
Placing third for the Indians was Scott in the 50 free in 26.07 seconds.
Owego's other "A" final place-winners were Holly Kersten in the 200 free (6th, 2:14.54) and 500 free (7th, 6:05.08), Kaelyn Katchuk in diving (4th, 375.65 points), Gault in the 100 free (4th, 56.91), French in the 100 free (7th, 58.45), and the 400 free relay of Jenna Bergmann, Kersten, Allison Welch and French (5th, 4:10.68).
The Indians' "B" final place-winners included Ashleigh Allen in the 100 fly (10th, 1:11.95), Leah Watson in the 100 fly (11th, 1:12.11) and 200 individual medley (13th, 2:40.6), Lily Harbol in diving (11th, 263.7 points), Bergmann in the 50 free (11th, 28.29), Carly Kirtland in the 100 breaststroke (11th, 1:23.9), Allison Shoen in the 200 free (13th, 2:22.46), 100 free (13th, 1:02.89) and 100 back (15th, 1:17.51), Morgan Cote in the 200 IM (15th, 29.15) and 200 free (16th, 2:28.42), and Emma Pawlak in the 500 free (6:59.78).
The Indians would finish third in the team standings with 350.5 points. Chenango Valley repeated as the team champion with 438.5 and M-E was the runner-up with 377.5.
Note: Katie Shoen posted state qualifying times in the 100-yard freestyle (53.92 seconds) the 100 backstroke (1:00.34) in Wednesday's preliminaries, and the 50 free during the regular season.
