SECTION IV FIELD HOCKEY: WHITNEY POINT FLEXES STICKS IN WIN OVER NEWARK VALLEY (2019-10-15)

WHITNEY POINT — Whitney Point is beginning to hit its stride as it aims for a sixth consecutive Class C state title. The Golden Eagles, who outscored their previous four opponents, 29-1, defeated Newark Valley, 5-0, in the Point's annual cancer game Tuesday.

The Eagles found the cage three times in the first 10 minutes. Brenna Bough broke the ice at 26:15 with the assist going to Madison Wayman. Keaghen Johnson scored at 24:43 with Taylor Petrie assisting. Ada Roe's unassisted goal at 20:55 pushed the advantage to 3-0.

Whitney Point increased its lead to 4-0 at halftime on Bough's second goal of the game at 13:11. Lindsey Davis earned the assist.

The Eagles would tack on one more goal in the second half when Madison McCall scored unassisted with 8:01 left in the game.

WP outshot the Cardinals, 13-5, and had a 6-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Gavin Blee made seven saves for NV and Emma Morgan had four for Whitney Point.
