STAC BOYS GOLF: OWEGO'S EVANS, PURTELL COMPETE IN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP (7 PHOTOS) (2019-10-15)

ITHACA — Owego seniors Brendan Evans and Nick Purtell competed in their final STAC match Tuesday — the league championship at Cornell University's Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.

Evans shot 89 on the par-72 course and Purtell posted a 93.

"Brendan was six over after 13 holes, playing well," said Owego head coach Chris Evans. "His last five holes, well, he kind of fell apart."

Horseheads' Seth Conway captured medalist honors with a 1-over 73 and led the Blue Devils to the team title. They finished with a 422, six strokes ahead of runner-up Seton Catholic. Chenango Forks' Ryan Locke was the individual runner-up with a 75.

Coach Evans will have at least one more opportunity to watch his son play a high school golf match.

"His overall scoring average is low enough to qualify for the state qualifier in May," he said.
