NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley's five-match win streak came to a halt as the Cardinals fell to Edison, 3-1, here Friday.
The Spartans won the opening game, 25-17, but NV bounced back in the second set, winning, 25-22. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Edison won the next two, 25-21 and 25-19.
Allie Wandell dished out 18 assists, along with nine digs, seven kills and two blocks; and Emma Graves had 16 kills, nine digs and a pair of aces.
Jordan Stiffarm contributed 20 digs, six aces and two kills; Kayla Malarkey had six digs, two kills and an assist; Kate Maine had 10 digs and an assist; Gracie Gardner chipped in with three kills, three blocks and two assists; Libby Northrop had nine digs, one kill and one assist; Isabel Rosalez had eight digs; and Leah Hartenstein added four digs.
For Edison (7-6, 7-5), Mallory Mowchan had 22 service points, Maren Lutz and Hailey Fierro had 13 and 11 kills, respectively, Ryleigh Carson had 12 assists; and Sidney Cooper added 15 poinst and 10 digs.
NV (9-3) visits Waverly Wednesday.
JV: Newark Valley won, 25-9 and 25-23, and also won the exhibition third set, 25-12.
Jenna Hanson had seven assists and five aces for the Cardinals. Hailey Moncalieri had four digs and three aces; Olivia Simms pitched in with four aces and one kill; Paige Little had three kills and an ace; Ashley Moncalieri added three aces and a kill; Makana Gardner had five kills; Katie Green had an ace and a dig; and Hunter Williams had an ace.
