SECTION IV FIELD HOCKEY: NEWARK VALLEY ROLLS PAST TIOGA (2019-10-04)
Tioga County Sports ReportNEWARK VALLEY — Cassidy Hoffmier recorded a hat trick to lead Newark Valley to an 8-2 Section IV Division 3 victory over Tioga here Friday.
Marissa Berghorn and Taylor Benjamin would contribute two goals apiece as the Cardinals improved to 9-3 on the season.
Hoffmier tallied the first goal of the game at 25:52 of the first half.
Berghorn notched her first at 19:16 and Benjamin got on the board at 15:57.
Phaedra Day pushed the NV advantage to 4-0 with a goal at 14:21.
The Tigers would finally break through at the other end of the field on Olivia Ayres' goal at 12:56.
NV would tally two more times in the half as Hoffmier scored at 8:42 and Benjamin scored 50 seconds later.
Ayres put her second goal of the day in the cage at 3:35.
Berghorn scored at 23:48 of the second half and Hoffmier completed her hat trick with eight seconds remaining in the game.
Day and Lois Kidney contributed assists to the victory.
The Cardinals outshot Tioga, 24-12, and held a 13-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Gavin Blee made 10 saves for NV and Kim Tarbox had 12 for the Tigers.
Newark Valley hosts Marathon Tuesday.
